Attention all animal devotees

I am looking for any and all stories involving first hand accounts of your experience euthanizing your beloved pet. I understand that this is a very difficult moment to try to recall at all. In fact, you may have consciously tried to force the memory from your mind. I assure you that the reason I ask you to undergo such a painful process is a noble one indeed. After 22 years as a practicing veterinarian I have learned one thing that is set in stone. The decision to euthanize is a very personal, agonizing and tormented one at best. No system of measurement exists for the ultimate and decisively selfless choice one can make as a pet owner.
I want to make this process easier, with a memoir style narrative, if at all possible, for pet owners to make the ultimate decision that faces everyone at least one time in their journey of animal love and companionship. I am looking for your personal account that begins with a history of your initial meeting, the evolving relationship, and the most difficult decision to end your beloved pet's suffering. In addition, it would be really helpful to include your recount of the actual experience itself, including the veterinarian's demeanor, compassion, and skills. All of these aspects make the entire process palatable or regretful.
My focus is the decision making process and what to expect when wishing for a positive, albeit profoundly sad, experience. Any use of your personal accounts will not result in financial reimbursement. In addition, your personal account may include your name and pet's name, or can be submitted anonymously if desired and expressly written at the beginning of your story. If your story is not requested to be anonymous it would be absolutely wonderful to include the most sentimental pictures of your pet and yourself or family as well.
